Finale at Whistler

Tuesday Feb 9

We awoke to a warm and sunny day - it was already 5C in the village and 10C at the Rendezvous. We headed out at 10am and the skiing was pretty bad overall - there were a few spots with OK conditions otherwise it was very icy with the odd patch of slush - the warm temps just did not soften things up unless they were in the direct sun.

We tried 1 run on 7th Heaven which wasn’t too bad but the lineups were huge so we shot over to Whistler and tired the peak t-bar - it was as icy as it gets so we continued down to the Red chair - these runs were probably the best on the mountain. Finally we skied down Tokum which was extremely icy in the steep sections (which are many) - that was it for any consideration of another run so we went back to the Mallard for lunch and called it a day. We needed to shower and do some shopping before going to Moe & John’s for dinner at 6pm. We had a great evening at their place - it would nice if they would visit Sydney so we could reciprocate.

Wednesday Feb 10

We hit the slopes but only did one run due to the fog (zero visibility over half the mountain) and heavy rain on the bottom 2/3 of the  mountain. We returned to the condo looking like drowned rats. We had lunch at home, went to the Dubh Lin for Apres Ski then had pasta and salad at home for dinner.

Thursday Feb 11

We hit the slopes again - it was cloudy and about 1C with good visibility. It was pretty icy (Dieter denies this but believe me it was icy) - the snow did soften up on the lower mountain. We skied pretty hard then had a late lunch at home (using up leftovers as it was getting to the end of our Whistler stay). We had Apres Ski one last time at the Mallard then had a warm beef salad for dinner.

Friday Feb 12

Marilyn’s 65th birthday and our last full day at Whistler. At time of writing (10am) it is raining - there was wet snow overnight on the upper mountain - we could hear the avalanche guns from early in the morning. Looks like we’ll give skiing a miss and do some shopping - all 2016 Bogner ski wear is 30% off today and I still have money left on our gift card - not that it will go too far when buying Bogner.

Saturday Feb 13

So it’s off to Niseko today - a 3 day trip. Today we took the 11am bus to YVR where we checked into the Fairmont. We had planned to take the train into the city for a walk around and dinner but the poor weather (rain, rain, rain) make us reconsider this decision. We just stayed at the hotel. We upgraded to a Club room so we had dinner made up of free canapés and paid drinks.
