Sunday - Jan 19
We arrived in Vancouver from Toronto around 10:30am local time and caught the 12:30 bus to Whistler. We arrived and were all checked in at 3:30pm - not having had any lunch we went to the Mallard Bar for a welcome drink and free snack bowl (upgraded from trail mix to nuts this year). We then did some grocery shopping and had cold cuts for an early dinner and off to bed - totally exhausted.
Monday - Jan 20
Day one on the mountain - wonderful sunshine and warm weather but not nearly enough snow. Conditions on top were hard-packed but groomed - so good for cruising. We skiing on Springboard and Ross's Gold before trying out the new Crystal Express lift - it is great, really opens up that whole area. After a great welcoming lunch at Christine's we skied home for a steak dinner and some Australian Open tennis viewing.
Tuesday - Jan 21
Another pretty good day - just cloudy. Conditions were better than Monday even though there was no new snow (and none in sight). Ross's Gold was so good we stayed there. We had another great lunch at Christine's. We went out for dinner at Wildflower in the Fairmont.
Wednesday - Jan 22
Another sunny and mild day - still just below freezing on top so skiing was still good. We skied on Whistler where we felt the conditions were not as good as Blackhome. After lunch at Steep's Grill we made our way home. We did some more grocery shopping and stayed home for mushroom pasta dinner - did not turn out so well.
Thursday - Jan 23
Another wonderful sunny and mild day (high of 4℃ on the mountain) - skied on Seventh Heaven - still very good, lunch at Christine's. We did a bit of look around the shops then had fives'es at the Dub Lihn before staying home for a dinner of cold cuts and cheese.
Friday - Jan 24
Yet another sunny day - high of 10℃ on the mountain. We skied on Crystal Express - excellent skiing until the sun hit the slopes; by 1:00pm the conditions deteriorated so we had a nice lunch at Christine's which was very busy as the outside terrace was open. Back at home for a quite evening of pesto pasta and salad for dinner.
Saturday - Jan 25
Holey tamoley - sunny and warm again - we skied Crystal Express in great spring conditions until 12:30 then down to the Mallard Bar for lunch of a shared prime rib sambo - super excellent then a trip to the IGA for more groceries. Back at home for a spa bath and shower then dinner at the Grill Room at the Fairmont - Elk Chop for Dieter, scallops for me - an excellent evening.
