Week 2

Sunday - Jan 26 - Australia Day

We took a day off even though it was still sunny - after relaxing we did a bit of window shopping then had a so-so lunch at the Dub Lhin. Afterward we tried the hot-tub for the first time this season and lamented the snow conditions with a couple from LA. We stayed home for a dinner of sambos.

Note that the crowd at the Long Horn (scene of the local OZ Day party) seemed smaller than other years - maybe the novelty is wearing off for the local Aussie crowd.

Monday - Jan 27

A mostly cloudy day with sunny breaks and a bit cooler - around freezing. We skied on Crystal then moved to Jersey Cream before taking the Peak-2-Peak over to Steeps for a late lunch (booked at 1:15 finally got seated just after 1:30pm). Christine's had been booked out when I called the previous day - Gay Pride Week makes for booked out restaurants. We took the P-2-P back to Blackhome and skied home, arriving around 3:30pm. The trip down Ross Gold was very icy - didn't bode well for the following days. We stayed home for an excellent dinner of Canadian Lamb, roasted German butter potatoes and beanettes.

Tuesday - Jan 28

Ah dear - it was a very cloudy and cool day (-2℃) so we took it easy before heading out - had to go as we had a 1:00pm booking at Christine's. After one run we called it quits, cancelled our booking at Christine's and went home. We tried to get into the Mallard Bar for lunch but it was closed for a private function so we went to Milestones. We had dinner at home.

Wednesday - Jan 29

We went out in partly cloudy conditions and skied on the Crystal and Jersey Cream until 1:00pm when we had lunch at Christine's. It was home early and an excellent, but expensive, dinner at Araxi.

Thursday - Jan 30

Hum - not good - very cloudy and very cold (-7℃ high) - we opted for another day off as from yesterday we knew it would be "hard packed" aka icy. We had lunch at the Mallard then did some shopping - I bought a pair of gortex ski pants at the Clearance Outlet with a view to using them on our upcoming Antarctica trip - they are a purple pattern - pretty kick-ass cool really. We spent some of our down-time making various bookings for our August/September trip to Europe.

Friday - Jan 31

So the sun returned with a vengeance but it was very cold (-10℃) and absolutely no snow in sight only sunny and very cold conditions - getting colder each day. Time to strap on the long johns. All things considered it was a good day out on the slopes - we had lunch at Christine's then home for a quite night in.

Saturday - Feb 1

A bit of a reprieve, a high of -7℃ today, sunny with a bit of cloud but getting more and more colder in the coming days (-17℃ on Tuesday forecast). We hit Blackcomb and found it pretty cold but still skied on Wishbone for a few runs then took the Peak-2-Peak, had a run on Whistler then went to Steeps for lunch only to find they seemed to have lost our reservation so we went back to Blackcomb, skied down and had a late lunch at the Mallard. Back at home we went shopping then home for a steak dinner.
