Sunday Feb 2
It was a cloudy day and still very cold so we took a day off. After spending the morning reading and investigating future trips we went to Araxi for "Sunday Brunch" around 1pm. We both had a variation on eggs benedict washed down with a Bloody Mary and Prawn Caesar respectively - food was excellent but ambience did not quite match dinner time. We stayed home for dinner of a roast baby chicken.
Monday Feb 3
The "Arctic Outflow" (according to the radio weather report) continued with sunny skies and a high of -14℃. We went out late (11am) and decided to ski on the lower mountain as it was a bit warmer and they had made lots of snow so conditions were not too bad all things considered. We had lunch at Steeps then skied home arriving at 3pm - quite cold. We stayed home for sambos.
Tuesday Feb 4
As predicted the high was a chilly -18℃ - it was still -25℃ on the mountain when we got up at 7:30am. Anyway the days are slipping away so it was out on the mountain for us. We only lasted 2 runs before heading home - we were both totally freezing.
Wednesday Feb 5
Another freezing day - high of -18℃ again. Again we only did 2 runs. We had lunch at home then went to Wildflower for dinner - we ended up arriving early and having a pre-dinner drink at the Mallard due to a full fire alarm at the Intrawest at 6:00pm.
Thursday Feb 6
Another freezing day - high of -18℃ again. We tied buying hand-warmers but these did not help much. So it was another short day on the mountain. We went to the Mallard for lunch and stayed home for a pasta and salad dinner.
Friday Feb 7
Today it warmed up to a high of -17℃. We made a few more runs before heading home for a late lunch. Later we went to the outdoor hot tub for a dip - it was very busy as one of the tubs was "closed for cleaning" for no apparent reason. Dieter managed to get his slippers swamped with chlorinated water - now a total write off - need to bring a back up pair next time. We had dinner at Umberto's - another old favourite - Dieter and black cod and I had jumbo Alaskan scallops.
Saturday Feb 8
A heatwave today - high of -15℃. No rush to get on the mountain so we watched the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics. We finally went out - not too bad. We stayed home for a pasta dinner and watched the Olympics.
Sunday Feb 9
A very busy day on the mountain - still cold but getting warmer. Skied a bit and had lunch at Christine's. We had a blowout dinner at the Bearfoot Bistro.
Monday Feb 10
After 3 weeks and not even a single snow flake it finally dumped a ton of snow overnight and into the day. As a result of poor visibility we decided to call it a day - well a ski trip. We stayed in and started our packing etc for our departure on Tuesday. We had scraps for lunch at home then went to Wildflower for dinner.
Tuesday Feb 11
Ah - the long trek home. We took the 12:30pm bus to the airport - checked our bags then took the Sky-train into the city for a walk around then an early dinner. Unfortunately it was cold and rainy so our walking was a bit restricted. We had five'es at an old favourite, Joe Fortes, then a light dinner at Cin Cin. We were settled into the MLL (Maple Leaf Lounge) by about 8:30pm and the long wait for our midnight AC flight to Sydney. Business class was totally full and the flight time was announced as 15h45m - a very long flight indeed - must have been due to head winds; we were over 2 hours late getting into Sydney. We arrived home at high-noon - quite tired.
