Maroochydore

Friday Feb 4

Last day at Broadbeach - got up to an amazing sunny and warm day. After a pack-up frenzy we set out for Maroochydore. Some 2+ hours later we arrived at Beach on Sixth - a holiday unit - it our pleasant surprise is was quite amazing - very tastefully decorated - a far cry from Peppers' “Ikea modern” - and very clean.

After settling in we went to Coles for some grocery shopping then back at home we relaxed on our balcony watching the surf and the surfers roll in. It was sunny and warm - no sign of the forecast rain.

After showers we walked to The Boat House, about 10 minutes away for an early dinner. We totally loved the sitting outdoors but undercover right on the water’s edge - we were fortunately protected from the howling winds - it had peaked at 80 K’s during the day.

Saturday Feb 5

Up early for coffees and brekkies on our balcony - the usual of fruit salad and cereal.

As can be seen from the weather snap above the day was a corker. We make a quick trip to the Mooloolaba fish market for some of their famous prawns for dinner. we also extended our 3 day stay to 4 days as we were so pleased with our unit and the location and area. It was really busy in the whole area - looked like school holidays only they’re over but it was a weekend.

Sunday Feb 6

Up early again - must be still impacted by Qld jet lag. We went to Buderim Forest Park and Falls and did a rainforest waterfall walk - it was really busy with families hiking into the many waterfalls.

Back at home we had a quick sambo then we were about to walk to Mooloolaba to have a walk around but showers kept moving in and out without warning so we drove over, walked around checking out the boutiques and cafes stopping at the James Squire pub for a drink.

Back at home we watched the Winter Olympics and had dinner at home - pasta and salad.

Monday Feb 7

Up early again, before 6am. After brekkie we drove to Kondalilla Falls (near Montville) for a rain forest walk - about 1.5 hours with lots ot steps - it was an excellent walk with lots of pools along the way if you wished to cool off with a dip. We then drove to Secret Cabins at Baroon Lake to check them out as we had booked to stay there on one of our cancelled trip to Queensland way back when borders were closed. We stopped at a picnic area for our packed lunch then drove to Maleny (close by) for a bit of grocery shopping - as it happened there was a pub right next door to the Woolies so we popped in for a refreshment (beer and G&T) and watched some of the Olympic’s downhill skiing. Below are some horses also enjoying a stop at the pub.

Back at home we cleaned up our hiking fear and went for dinner at our local favourite, The Boat Shed, for a great dinner sitting at the water’s edge. The it was home for a bit more Olympic viewing and an early night.
