Tuesday Feb 8
Off to Binna Burra today. We arrived around 2:30pm (about a 2.5 drive) and checked-in to our “luxury” 2-bedroom unit. The views are amazing - overlooking the Lamington National Park. After settling in we went for dinner at their bistro around 6:15pm (it closes at 7:30pm) and had a pretty reasonable meal - steak for Dieter and barramundi for me.
Back home early we watched some of the Olympics before bitting the sack.
Wednesday Feb 9
We got op really early, before 6am and enjoyed brekkie and a few Nespresso’s sitting on our deck even thought it was still quite cool, < 20C. we did the Caves walk - a medium grade (level 4 of 5) - lots of steps and quite muddy in places - 2+ hours all up. We came back to our unit for lunch and a rest then did another easy walk in the afternoon (5k’s but pretty flat - the Rainforest circuit + part of the border walk). We then stopped at the Bushwalkers Bar in the Groom’s Cottage for a sundowner. Then it was home for showers and dinner (Pasta and salad).
Thursday Feb 10
We started off the day with an early start (again). We did a couple of walks then had dinner at the bistro - again pretty good.
Friday Feb 11
Time to head home - we headed off at 8:30am heading for Port Macquarie for an overnighter. When
we stopped at a rest area for our packed lunch we ran into Geoff and Michael who were also heading back to Sydney - talk about coincidences. We reached the Manta at the Port mid-afternoon so headed over to the Beach House pub on the waterfront for a welcome drink then bought a few things for brekkie at the local Coles. We returned to the Beach House for dinner (burgers) then off to bed with a bit of Olympics viewing.
Saturday Feb 12
The final push home - another 5 hours on the road and walked in the door mid-afternoon. So the unpacking and laundry commenced before we went for dinner at the Living Room at the Park Hyatt. (Most places were booked out and/or only had special Valentines’ Day menus.) Our dinner was a bit disappointing - we both had snapper and it was the smallest piece of fish we’d ever been served in a restaurant. Anyway - we cut our losses and returned home for a glass of red and a chocolate.
And that was the end of another Covid-era holiday.
