Vancouver

Thursday August 11 - off to Vancouver

We got up very early (6am) to find our 10am flight to Vancouver was delayed by 30 minutes. Nevertheless we headed over to the AC checkin at 7:30am where we found out our ArriveCAN online doco was not in order - the agent assisted in sorting it out. We were settled in the Swiss Air lounge by 8am or thereabouts. We helped ourselves to some breakfast and waited for our flight …..

The 10+ hour flight was uneventful - food was pretty so-so but the Champagne was cold - we landed on time and pretty much sailed through immigration even though the lines looked pretty long. (As it came to pass we did not get selected for random Covid on arrival testing.) We wasted 30 minutes thinking one of our bags was missing only to find someone had already removed it from the carousel ….. a $40 taxi ride to the Embarc at the Sheraton Wall Center and we were all settled into our very nice 1-bedroom vacation home on the 58th floor. By now it was after 2pm so we unpacked and did a bit of grocery shopping for breakfast then had a very early (5pm) dinner at Joe Fortes; as we were 5 minutes early we could order appetisers and a drink from the  Happy Hour menu - all in all at 10 out of 10. Then a bit of Canadian Open tennis viewing and off to bed.

Friday August 12

We got up at 6am after going to bed really early - another warm (23℃) and sunny day. We took a long walk along the seafront and seawall then stopped for lunch at another one of our old favourites, The Lift on the waterfront.

The back to our condo for some afternoon tennis viewing and dinner of sambos at home.

Saturday August 13

We had a bit of a sleep in then took the little ferry to the Maritime Museum at Kitslano and walked (30+ minutes) to Bowen Island which was buzzing. We walked around all the shops - from high end art showrooms to low end kitch - then over to the food market which was amazing - not just the wonderful produce but the prices - makes Sydney look cheap. So what are Aussies complaining about.

We had an excellent early lunch at the Tap and Barrel Pub on Bowen - we both had selections from the weekend brunch selection - variations on poached eggs - both excellent. We took the ferry back to the Aquatic Center and walked back to our condo - I was very pooped out with a lingering post-Covid cough and tiredness.

So it was more afternoon Canadian Open tennis viewing and more sambos for dinner (being Saturday we could not get a reservation at a nearby restaurant - CinCin being our first choice so we booked for the following day).

Sunday August 14

A sunny and warm day - 25℃ - the kind of weather which makes Vancouver a great place to live. We walked to the pub at Stanley Park for lunch and back - a nice walk and lunch. That was it until we went to Cin Cin for dinner - Dieter was very happy with his meal - me not so much - luck of the day.

Monday August 15

Off to Whistler today.
