Wolgan Valley - Jan 8-10, 2013

Tuesday - January 8 - Dieter's 70ieth

On Jan 8 we all set out for the fabulous Wolgan Valley Resort in the Blue Mountains.

With Garry driving and Dieter navigating we managed to get a bit lost but eventually recovered and arrived in time for a late lunch. It was a very hot day (40C) so we spent the afternoon relaxing, settling into our respective suites and testing our private plunge pools before setting out on an organised game drive at 5:30pm. The game consisted of all manner of kangaroos, wallabies and wallaroos with lots of evidence of wombats but no sightings. We finished off the drive with refreshments at the old (now restored) homestead.

We returned to our villas for showers then got stuck into a bottle Bollinger to start Dieter's official birthday celebration - the big Seven Oh. We eventually made it to dinner at 8:45pm and had a nice meal albeit a bit on the meagre side with a few service hiccups.

Wednesday - January 9

We had a short walk before breakfast then enjoyed a leisurely brekkie on the balcony.  Later in the morning we did a mountain bike ride to the platypus deck where we relaxed in the shade while talking to one of the rangers/guides but did not spot a platypus.

Back at the ranch, we had lunch then did another bike ride later in the afternoon.  We had dinner a bit earlier and again experienced service issues but enjoyed the food.

Thursday - January 10

We started the day with an early walk followed by breakfast. We decided to depart just after check-out and stop for lunch at the Wentworth Falls Cafe - a favourite of ours. We reached Sydney around 4pm.
