Kangaroo Valley

We decided to take a quick mid-week getaway in Kangaroo Valley from May 14-17. We found the above house on Stayz.com.au and off we went.

Since Dieter was still recovering from his broken shoulder I did all the driving. We set off from Sydney around 1pm after my tennis coaching - we had lots of luggage as we brought all our own food and beverages for the 3 days.

We picked up our keys around 3pm in the small village of Kangaroo Valley from Ray & White Real Estate (also trading as Kangaroo Valley Getaways). Our 120 acre property was just a few K's out of town but not easy to spot as there was no signage (other than a small street number) at the gate. The driveway was about 1 KM long - a rough, hilly and winding but the Beemer made it.

We were all settled in just in time for five'es around an open fire, prepared by Dieter, the Boy Scout.  It was still daylight so we checked out the local wildlife - lots of kangaroos and birds (kookaburras, rosellas, king parrots, etc) as well as plenty of evidence of wombats but over our stay not one choose to show its face.

The house, Bundaleer, is a very modern design with lots of ambience; however, with many of the usual holiday home issues (e.g. stove and fridge not very clean).

For dinner I made pasta (chilli, rocket, lemon and speck) with a  salad.

Wednesday

After breakfast we drove to Fitroy Falls and did a couple of walks before returning to town for a light bistro lunch. It was a great sunny and mild day - 16C. We drove around some more after lunch then headed back to the house for dinner of lamb chops.

Thursday

We did the 3 views walks (all 3 of them) which have scenic views of the Tallowa dam. It rained a little but cleared to another sunny and warm (for this time of year) day - highs around 16C. We had a pretty ordinary lunch at the pub in town then headed home. For dinner we had Osso Bucco.

Friday

We packed up then set off for Kiama by way of Robertson, we did a short walk at Carrington Falls then at Minamurra Falls we did a steep walk in half the recommended time. We got to Kiama in time for a walk around the village and a late lunch at a nice bistro with views to the harbour. Then it was the long (well 2 hours) drive back to Sydney.

On arriving home, after showers and unpacking we went to the Bar at the End of the Wharf for sliders.
